After starting training under Dickie Wood in 2011, Zuhdi claimed the World Boxing Union World Lightweight Title on September 20, 2012, defeating German Jurado (12-2) of Changuinola, Panama in a twelve round, unanimous decision. The spirited battle featured action from bell to bell and drew rave reviews, as well as earning Zuhdi the prestige, respect, and legacy-making fight he sought.
After the bout, Joe Louis Jr. (son of Hall of Fame heavyweight Joe Louis) stated “Zuhdi-Jurado was the best fight I’ve seen in ten years,” he said. “And on a personal note, I’m incredibly proud to know Noah as a friend and I believe he is an extremely great asset for the sport of boxing. He is a true champion, both inside and out.”
WBU Commissioner Don “Moose” Lewis stated after the bout, "I am proud to have been a small part in the historic event in Oklahoma featuring a gentleman such as Noah Zuhdi. Rarely does any boxing organization have the privilege of a class act representing them, and to have Noah to do such, as well as him being an exciting, entertaining, tenacious fighter, is simply fantastic. It is my hope, that Oklahoma City realizes there is a new major league franchise in town-and it's Noah Zuhdi."
Zuhdi successfully began defenses of of his championship while practicing law in Oklahoma City, OK and training out of Colorado Springs with legendary trainer Dickie Wood. The former trainer of world champions Diego Corrales, Jermain Taylor, and Oleg Maskaev, Wood stated at the time, "Noah is the best conditioned boxer I have ever had--and he can become the best World Champion I have ever had."
Zuhdi's first defense of his lightweight championship came against Gyula Vajda, a dangerous national champion from Hungary, on August 24, 2013. Taking place in front of a sold-out crowd at the Lucky Star Casino in Concho, Oklahoma, the hard-hitting affair was brief but explosive. Significant shots were landed by both fighters in the first round with Zuhdi scoring a knockdown over Vajda. In the second round, Zuhdi knocked Vajda down again with a devastating barrage started by an overhand right, this second knockdown putting Vajda down for good. The second defense of Zuhdi's championship occurred at the OKC Downtown Airpark in Oklahoma City on June 6, 2014. He would face off with Eduardo Pereira Dos Reis, a crafty fighter with only one loss on his record at the time of the fight. While previous fights had shown Zuhdi gutting out a fight and using his power to secure victories, this fight relied on strategy and patience. With each passing round, Zuhdi would fare significantly better, leading to combinations, infighting, and eventually injuring Reis's ribs until he did not answer the bell and come out for the fifth round. Zuhdi would not lose his WBU Lightweight Championship in the ring and would go on to pursue various business ventures. His gloves from his first championship bout were collected and recorded by the Oklahoma History Center. Zuhdi now resides in Oklahoma City with his wife, Sara, and son, Elijah. He owns numerous real estate holdings and is the co-owner of Oklahoma Foundation Solutions, LLC.
